What’s the best font style for a resume?

Since your resume will likely be processed by an applicant tracking system (ATS), the best fonts are those shown to be common and readable by computers. Sans serif fonts (Arial, Calibri) are designed without extra flourishes and are designed to be viewed easily on a computer screen. Serif style fonts like Times New Roman and Garamond which include extra flourishes are readable in print and have been shown to be readable by computers, too. However, unique fonts or fonts containing too many flourishes may cause trouble. Do not use a font that you need to download. If the recruiter has not downloaded your font, the resume may be reformatted with readability affected. When converting to PDF from Microsoft Word®, check the box for embedding fonts with your document to ensure the font does not change when converted to PDF.
