What’s the right format for ATS?

The best formats are Word (*.docx) or PDF. If it cannot be converted to text and read, it will be ignored. Therefore, no graphics, images, logos, charts, or photos. ATS vary in sophistication. The crudest ones simply read your resume left to right across the entire resume. Tables and multi-column resume formats can confuse ATS, causing a single row of text in the left column to be added to the same row of right column text next to it, creating a confusing mess. Therefore, it’s best to avoid tables and multi-column formats, too. Put nothing in headers or footers since these are often ignored. Finally, use plain text hyperlinks (where the text displayed is the actual hyperlink text) since embedded hyperlinks can confuse ATS algorithms.
